Thank you for asking. I thought I'd put the explanation with the photo but It looks like I didn't. What I did was take 3 separate exposures then layered them together and erased to blend. That is how the moon looked but in the first two exposures it was bright and lacked detail, so I took the 3rd exposure to highlight the moon alone.

as far as I know there is no way to have the moon detail and the background light up like that without photoshop.
