The hike to here is short and easy, but this is where the majority of people stop, turn around, and go back to their cars. When you cross the bridge and head up the trail, you enter the Desolation Wilderness area. You're supposed to fill out a form stating when you started and where you're going... just in case. If you hike another mile up (and about a 1000 foot elevation gain) you'll come to Eagle Lake.
