I took a 50 minute drive up into the Santa Cruz Mountains to Big Basin State Park, a place I visit often since it's so close to home. I spent the day hiking among the giant redwoods. Here I'm in the middle of what's known as a Fairy Ring, or Fairy Circle. These are trees that were seedlings of and grew around the perimeter of an old growth tree that is no longer there. These particular trees are all 150 to over 200 feet tall and between 600 to 1000 years old.

Beautiful! Big Basin has been one of my favorite places since I was a little kid.

Thanks... Still amazes me that there are people who have lived here all their lives and have never been there.
