This is a stitching together of 3 photos. Calif. HWY 89, Lake Tahoe. To the right is Cascade Lake and to the left is Emerald Bay. This section of highway, sometimes referred to as Vertigo Road, has no guard rails, a 200-300 foot drop on both sides and nowhere to pull off the road. You have no choice but to go straight. It freaks out many first timers and you see them slowly driving down the center of the road, tires straddling the yellow line. It gets really interesting when you meet a logging truck coming in the opposite direction. I parked my Jeep about a quarter mile behind me on a little outcropping and walked down to here.. Sometimes I'll sit at the opposite end of the road and watch the cars and looks on the faces of the occupants. In the distance to the right is Heavenly Valley Ski Resort. The upper slopes are above 10,000 feet elevation.
I've always wanted to stop and do this love this ridge! I'm going to add it to my "must" list for this winter or maybe sooner if I make it up for the leaves
Gorgeous photo! I think I've been there with my family during our holidays. We drove along this street with a hired campervan and we called this street "gulp-road", because my mom gulped very hard when we passed it
